Yellow Rose silk dupioni ballgown front view

Hollow to Hem (base of neck to floor): 56″

This is an amazing silk ballgown that I purchased as fodder to use in my reclaimed fabric designs because the color was so unique, and I can’t bring myself to cut it up.

From what I can see, the dress has never been worn or altered. It looks to be in perfect condition; I can find no stains, marks, rips or flaws anywhere. I don’t know how old this dress is, but the style is very 1990’s vintage, with jewel neck bodice, a drop-waist that’s very flattering, low V-back, gloriously full gathered skirt and a chapel train. It’s fully boned and fully lined for secure comfort. There is a built-in crinoline for fullness and extra petticoats can be added underneath if desired. Dress shown here with an extra petticoat underneath because I love extra-full skirts on ballgowns.

The pale yellow color is a cool yellow, like Lemon Ice. The dress would be perfect for a spring, summer or even a winter wedding.

The pale yellow silk is rarely found and makes the dress very unique. Even more unique? This designer Marisa dress was made in the USA by skilled union workers, before garments were sent to factories overseas. The hand-stitching on the dress is exquisite and clearly done by skilled seamstresses. You can wear this dress and be proud that it was not created in a far-away foreign factory.

This ballgown would be perfect for a spring or summer wedding or formal affair and would be right at home in a garden; If a bustle were put in or the train removed, the dress would be amazing for a prom or a spring formal dance. The best part about this dress is that it’s real silk. It glows rather than shines and looks beautiful in photos. Besides moving like no synthetic fabric can, silk is cool and comfortable and BREATHES. Anyone who’s ever worn a sweaty soggy clingy polyester dress knows the difference.

Why is the price so low for a perfect vintage silk ballgown? Frankly because I want it to go to someone who would appreciate it and I don’t want fundage to be a deterrent. This dress deserves a good home and an occasion to be worn.

Our Ethical Pledge

The silk we use in our designs is either new hempsilk or reclaimed silk fabrics, repurposed from unwanted dresses which would have eventually ended up in a landfill. We believe that by giving pre-loved dresses a new life and extending their usefulness, we not only honor the initial sacrifice of the silkworms but we honor the laborers who wove the original fabric. We do this by reclaiming and re-using a resource that would otherwise be wasted.
