This 1980’s vintage 100% silk dress is a rarity in that it’s a size for women, not adolescent crickets. (Ok maybe that wasn’t kind, but geez one sees a lot of 98lb models). Sweet rose-themed embroidery and simple pearls decorate the bodice and down the skirt. The skirt is uncluttered with clean lines and a truly dramatic cathedral train.
Not sure of your measurements? We created a page that shows you exactly how to take them:
The bodice has full-shouldered cap sleeves, a v-neckline with matching back, and appliqués cover the back zipper. It is modestly cut with excellent coverage.
The dress has a flattering basque waist and the skirt is slimming, with minimal gathers. The dress has an incredible cathedral train and includes a narrow built-in crinoline. The dress is shown here over an additional crinoline (not included) for extra fullness because I happen to love the look of full ballgowns. The 100% silk dupioni fabric is wonderfully crisp and light and despite the long train, the dress would be very easy to wear.
The best part about this dress is that it’s real silk. It glows rather than shines and looks beautiful in photos. Besides moving like no synthetic fabric can, silk is cool and comfortable and BREATHES. Anyone who’s ever worn a sweaty soggy clingy polyester dress knows the difference.
I call this dress ‘pre-owned’ because I don’t know for sure that it wasn’t. But the condition is too perfect to have been worn in a wedding. It’s so clean that I doubt it has ever been worn outside. I can find no rips or stains; there are a few pearls missing but it’s a challenge to see where. Took me a while!
This dress is in beautiful ready-to-wear condition and would be a fabulous bargain for a modest bride. Message me with any questions!
NOTE: Economy shipping includes dress wrapping in a zipped plastic wardrobe bag for best protection and sent in a sturdy box. A keepsake preservation box may be available at no extra cost but may increase shipping charges due to the size and weight.
Why is the price so low for a perfect vintage silk ballgown? Frankly because I want it to go to someone who would appreciate it and I don’t want fundage to be a deterrent. This dress deserves a good home and an occasion to be worn.

Our Ethical Pledge
The silk we use in our designs is either new hempsilk or reclaimed silk fabrics, repurposed from unwanted dresses which would have eventually ended up in a landfill. We believe that by giving pre-loved dresses a new life and extending their usefulness, we not only honor the initial sacrifice of the silkworms but we honor the laborers who wove the original fabric. We do this by reclaiming and re-using a resource that would otherwise be wasted.
